Although seascapes were Leslie's main subject matter, he did also paint landscapes and a few portraits, still-lives and, especially early in his career, studies from life-models.
The work shown here is what is left from the estate and, as such, is not really representative of his whole career as a painter. The quality varies and some are clearly very rough sketches. He rarely painted from photographs but there are two examples here – both of ships – and probably painted for Barrie based on his photographs when at sea during the war.
